چکیده

The prostaglandins constitute a class of physiologically active compounds with a widespread occurrence in animal tissues (see References 2 and 3). Previous studies have led to the determination of their structures (4-S), and more recent investigations have shown that they can be formed enzymatically from the essential fatty acids (7,8). It was thus shown that in homogenates of vesicular glands from sheep, prostaglandin El (PGEr)’ is formed from 8,11,14-eicosatrienoic acid (9, lo), PGEz from 5,8,11,14-eicosatetraenoic acid (7, S), and PGEa from 5,8,11, 14,17-eicosapentaenoic acid (10). However, no PGF-compounds were detected. The experiments reported here, show that the biosynthesis of prostaglandins is not restricted to the vesicular gland, but it can also take place in homogenates of guinea pig lung. In this system, both PGF& and PGEz are formed from arachidonic acid.

The Role of Nitric Oxide and Prostaglandins in the Effect of Adenosine on Contractility, Heart Rate and Coronary Blood Flow in Guinea Pig Isolated Heart

It is a well-established fact that adenosine and its receptor subtypes (A 1 and A ) are involved in changes of contractility, heart rate and coronary blood flow (CBF) under different circumstances. This study was conducted to evaluate the role of nitric oxide and prostaglandins in development of these changes. For this purpose, Nitro-L-Arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), and indomethacin as inhibit...

Relaxant effect of pioglitazone on the guinea-pig isolated trachea through the modulation of endogenous prostaglandins

Thiazolidinediones are commonly used anti-diabetic drugs. Owing to the anti-inflammatory action of TZDs as a result of there action on the PPAR gamma receptor and a proposed action on the prostaglandins, these drugs can be tried in the acute exacerbations of COPD that are also commonly found among diabetic patients. An experimental study of one week was carried out at animal house of Army Medic...

Experimental investigation on the pathogenesis of tartrazine-induced asthma.

The effects of tartrazine on the synthesis of prostaglandin-like substances (PGLS) from arachidonic acid in isolated perfused guinea pig lung, and on the contractile responses of guinea pig tracheal tissues induced by histamine, acetylcholine, bradykinin, serotonin and prostaglandin F2 alpha were studied. The synthesis of PGLS from arachidonic acid was not inhibited by tartrazine. The contracti...

Effect of p-bromophenacyl bromide, an inhibitor of phospholipase A2, on arachidonic acid release and prostaglandin synthesis by the guinea-pig uterus in vitro.

The synthesis of prostaglandins F2alpha and E2 by guinea-pig uterine homogenates was inhibited by p-bromophenacyl bromide (PBPAB), an inhibitor of phospholipase A2. 2 Metabolism of prostaglandin F2alpha by uterine homogenates was undetectable; this was not affected by PBPAB. 3 There was no significant difference between the amounts of arachidonic acid released from uterine homogenates on days 7...
